Lex ter Braak studied Dutch and comparative literature and studied at to the Rietveld Academy. Besides being an artist, Ter Braak is also known as an organisator, curator and director of De Vleeshal, Middelburg, Fund BKVB and the Jan van Eyck Academy, Maastricht. Besides he was a teacher at the Rietveld Academy and the Sandberg Institute.

Lex ter Braak (Bussum, 1950) studeerde Nederlands en vergelijkende literatuurwetenschappen en deed daarna de Rietveld Academie. Het was zijn vader, een bankier, die hem ervan weerhield om vol voor het kunstenaarschap te gaan. Te weinig bestaanszekerheid, vond hij. Een tijdlang was hij behalve leraar Nederlands ook part time kunstenaar.
